The adrenal gland consists of steroid producing cells in three zones: zona glomerulosa producing mineralcorticoids, zona fasciculata producing glucocorticoids and zona reticularis producing androgens. These cells are found in the cortex of the adrenal gland. The medulla of the adrenal gland contains branching and anastomosing cells that produce the catecholamines epinephrine and norepinephrine.
