The kidney is the filter of the body. The kidney consists of a cortex and medulla, similar to other organs like the adrenal gland. The renal medulla consists of pyramids, papillae and renal columns. The renal cortex consists of the periphery of the kidney, with the capsule and medullary rays. The nephron is the main unit of the kidney. The nephron consists of Bowman's capsule, proximal convoluted tubule, loop of Henle and distal convoluted tubule.
