The testis is a male reproductive organ which synthesizes both hormones, testosterone, as well as forming and maturing sperm. The testis has two main primary cell types, the seminiferous tubules and the interstitial cells. The seminiferous tubules contain the germ cells which develop into spermatogonia through to spermatozoon and Sertoli cells, which are the epithelium of these tubules and support the germ cells and secrete inhibin. Between the tubules are the interstitial cells, mainly the Leydig cells that produce and secrete the hormone, testosterone and other androgens.
